The by-elections of all the five constituencies, two Lok Sabha and three Vidhan Sabha seats has been won by the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), which went to poll on April 12.
The Khaliababad Lok Sabha seat has been won by the BSP candidate Bhimshankar alias Kushal Tiwari by a huge margin of over 64,000 votes slashing his nearest rival Bhalchandra Yadhav of the Samajwadi Party, election sources said. BSP nominee Akbar Ahmad Dampi won the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat by over 53,000 votes, defeating his rival Ramakant Yadav .
The Colonelganj Assembly seat has been secured by Brij Singh who defeated his nearest rival SP's Yogesh Pratap Singh by more than 9,000 votes while Rajni Tiwari won the Bilgram Assembly seat by over 38,000 votes. She defeated SP candidate Vishram Singh.
As far as the Lok Sabha by-polls are concerned, Bhartiya Janata Party candidate Hemant Khandelwal defeated Congress rival Sukhdev Panse by more than 35,440 votes. Khandelwal secured 3,00,674 votes while his rival Congress party's Sukhdev Panse received 2,65,234 votes. A total of 6,56,049 voters had voted for the Aprl 12 by-polls.
What is surprising is Samajwadi Party candidate Dr. Suneelam lost securing only about 21,698 votes. He was placed fourth.
