Government-run telecom service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, has launched an affordable broadband connection for the remote and rural regions of Himachal Pradesh.
"Under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), BSNL has launched broadband connectivity in rural and tribal areas of the hill state at a subsidized tariff," a BSNL spokesperson said.
The BSNL will be offering internet services at a subsidized rate of Rs.850 for the initial 31 connections individual and government organizations. Self-help groups will be provided connections on a preferential basis, the spokesperson added.
The USOF, which is a Department of Telecommunications initiative, will be controlled by BSNL for the implementation of this project in rural areas across the country
