BSNL has lowered ISD call rates to some member countries of the SAARC (South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation) by 15-35 percent. The policy decision would be effective from Saturday. Under the changed scenario BSNL users of mobile and landline would be able to call to Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Bhutan at price lower than other telecom service providers.

BSNL under its 725 post-paid plan to its mobile phone users would provide calls at Rs.9 per minute to above mentioned countries. Earlier the call rate was 10/minute to same countries. However, on the other connections in the post-paid and pre-paid plans, call rate has been lowered down to Rs.9 per minute from the existing Rs.12/minute.

Similarly, BSNL land line subscribers would enjoy lower call rates now. Under new call-rate regime, they would be charged Rs.9.60/minute instead of existing Rs.12/minute. According to one official from the public sector telecom firm, it would soon come with lower call-rate regime for its subscribers to call in Middle Eastern countries.
