Bhangra singer Malkit Singh, who has given fans some all-time favorites like Gur Nalo Ishq Mita and Tootak Tootak Tootiyan, has been made the Member of the British Empire (MBE) by the British Queen in a glittering ceremony convened at the Buckingham Palace recently. The conferment of the honour has made Malkit Singh the very first Punjabi singer to get included in the esteemed list of the Queen that is made twice each year.
This list seeks to acknowledge the contribution of those people who have made long-standing contribution to the nation or the community. Malkit Singh, who is 45 years old, remarked from his Birmingham home that he has worked on his music very passionately his whole life. Singh was born at Jalandhar in Punjab, but shifted to Britain in 1984. He released two of his bhangra albums there which became runaway hit in dance halls and night clubs all over Britain.
