Chandigarh is likely to get an in-market business office from British Columbia with an investment of Rs. 60 lakh. With this British Columbia will become the second Canadian province after Ontario to set up a trade office in India to promote business. The British Columbia government had already announced to invest Rs 5 crore for fostering its ties with India. The newly sanctioned 60 lakh is in addition to the earlier amount.

The Canadian province has already appointed D.J. Sandhu, a management professor at the University of Fraser Valley (UFV), for its Chandigarh business office. According to British Columbia premier, Gordon Campbell, India is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies and British Columbia has deep and established roots with the people of India. He further added that the establishment of office of in-market business investment and skills liaison representative is a part of British Columbia's expansion plans as far as key Asian markets are concerned.

The new office will help entrepreneurs from Punjab to invest and migrate to British Columbia for setting up businesses there. British Columbia already has trade offices in the US, China, Japan and Europe.
