Bangalore-based biscuits major Britannia has announced its foray into milk-based drinks segments with the launch of Actimind, a vitamin fortified drink for children, based on milk.

"This is not flavoured milk but a vitamin fortified milk-based drink," said the Britannia managing director Vinita Bali during the launch.

"The advantage is it is ready-to-drink and can be had anywhere including in a school with or without refrigeration," Bali said, adding mentioning that it comes with a shelf-life of six months.

The product will be available initially in Tamil Nadu, with the company planning to make it available in other parts soon.

"We don't have any specific plans now for a national rollout," Bali said.

She also mentioned that Britannia was into the manufacturing of value-added dairy products since the time it exited the commodity milk business before seven years.
