With a batch of 30 students, Britain's first Hindu school began its operations in London on September 15, 2008. Named Krishna Avanti Voluntary Aided Primary School, the school has been set up in one of most thickly populated Hindu areas 'Edgeware' in North London. According to reports, the classes will held at the temporary building initially as the construction of the actual school building has not been completed yet.

Although the school is bent on following the national curriculum, yet it would impart education based on Hindu values and norms. According to Rasamanbla Das of Oxford Center of Hindu Studies, the school administration has tried out every possible ways of incorporating in the course curriculum Hindu values like inclusivity and equality of all living beings. Mr Das has been the real force behind mingling the Hindu values in the syllabus.

London's Edgeware, which is a Hindu-dominated area, was reportedly in desperate need of such a school. The newly established school might bring a huge amount of relief to the innumerous parents who were demanding such a Hindu school for a long time. Although at present the school will operate as a primary school, there are plans to develop the school further gradually. The school is said to get all types of assistance from Hare Krishna movement.
