British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has asked India to join 'New Global Deal' for removing poverty and disease from the world. Brown also said that both the countries should actively take part in rebuilding international institutions like the United Nations and G-8. Brown also said that in the coming years the relationship between India and Britain will further strengthen.
Brown, while addressing the Annual Luncheon of the Labor Friends of India (LFI), on Wednesday said that his government looks forward to work with the Indian government to reform international institutions which will recognize India's growing importance in the world. He also advocated India's membership in the UN Security Council and the G-8 nations.
Brown also presented the Fenner Brockway medal to Lord Brockway who actively campaigned for Indian independence. Other notable persons who participated in the luncheon were Jack Straw, Tessa Jowel, Lord Swaraj Paul, Neil Kinnock and Ken Livingstone.
