Brazil defeated South Africa 1-0 to meet USA in the finals of Confederations Cup. Brazilian defender Daniel Alves had been on the field for only six minutes when he scored the solitary goal. The goal came two minutes before full-time.
Brazil will meet USA in the finals on Sunday in Johannesburg. South Africa will meet Spain for the third-place playoff in Rustenburg on the same day. The 88th minute goal came in the form of a free-kick awarded because of a foul by South African captain Aaron Mokoena. Brazil is bidding to retain the trophy that the team won in 2005. Khune made a save with his foot to deny Brazil its second goal.

There were times when it seemed as if South Africa would contribute to the list of shock exits, which saw world champions Italy knocked out by Egypt in group phase and USA beating Spain in the first semi-final. South Africa would be also hosting FIFA World Cup next year. The home side looked good for most of the game but could not provide the finishing touch.

Brazil have won this trophy twice and would be looking to seal victory against USA. USA on the other hand is brimming with confidence after the win over Spain.
