Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has confirmed their progress to the semi-finals from Pool A in the 85th All-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament. They defeated Indian Overseas Bank by 2-0 on Wednesday.
BPCl has gained in total 9 points after their third win. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) which also has 9 points will compete with BPCL on Thursday. The match will decide the top two positions in the pool.
Meanwhile, Army XI, who overcame Mumbai XI by 3-1 also advanced to the semi-finals stage with nine points while finishing second in Pool A behind Indian Oil Corporation with12 points.IOB, who had lost two of their three previous matches and as such had nothing at stake, struggled to lift their game and spent much of the 70 minutes defending,.
BPCL controlled the game but missed scoring opportunities. BPCL took the lead with a fourth-minute strike by Ravi Pal Singh. Pradeep Singh turned the penalty corner in the 53rd minute to double the lead.
