Boss's Day a.k.a National Boss Day is a secular holiday celebrated on October 16 in the United States. The day is celebrated as a mark of appreciation towards the bosses for being fair and kind throughout the year.

The origin of Boss's Day can be traced back to 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. Patricia was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois. While working she became aware of the challenges her boss (who also happened to be her father) had to face at the work. In order to show her admiration and respect for her father-boss, she hit upon the idea of Boss Day, for bosses across the country, and chose her dad's birthday - 16th October, as the date.

In 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day. In recent years National Boss Day has gained importance internationally and is observed in countries such as England, Australia and South Africa.
