German researchers say transplantation of bone marrow using stem cells from a donor with natural genetic resistance to the AIDS can cure AIDS. The leading researchers Dr Gero Hutter and Thomas Schneider of the Clinic for Gastroenterology in Berlin said that as of today, more than 20 months after the successful transplant, no HIV can be detected in the patient.

Schneider said that the team performed all tests, not only with blood but also with other reservoirs. The researchers say that bon marrow transplantation would never become a standard treatment for HIV. They confide that bone marrow stem cell transplants are rigorous and dangerous and require the patient to first have his or her own bone marrow completely destroyed.

In his matching opinion, Professor Andrew Sewell of the University of Cardiff said that the problem with the transplantation is that most people with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa and this is hugely expensive, so, it's going to be an option for very few people. Also, the team on the issue of comeback of the virus, in a statement said that the virus is tricky, and, it can always return.
