Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has signed a contract with Intelsat Ltd for making four telecommunication satellites.
This is the first order for Boeing's 702B satellite series. The financial details of the deal were not revealed.
A Boeing statement said “The 702B, an evolution of the Boeing 702 satellite, offers satellite operators a spacecraft that operates in the medium-level power ranges,"
The 702B series has been into development for more than four years. It is the proven technology and low risk factor that makes it different from other spacecrafts.
The four geo-stationary satellites include Intelsat 21, Intelsat 22 and two other un-named spacecrafts. All these four satellites will enable distribution of video, network and voice services from Asia and Africa to the Americas and Europe
Chicago-based Boeing has delivered 33 satellites to Intelsat till date.
