There is a hope for ever-spreading diabetes patients. Researchers from University of Melbourne and St Vincent Hospital have reached into a conclusion that the new drug could end life-threatening condition caused by diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses. There is a huge market of around 2 billion dollars for such medicine.
Professor Darren Kelly of the University of Melbourne on breakthrough research commented that there are currently no treatments on the market for fibrosis and the new drug, called FT-11, could be as important a discovery as blood pressure drugs if effective. The drug though not yet tested in clinical trials will be tested in lab within 12 months.
However, Professor Kelly was clear about the prospect of the drug when he said that the drug would not prevent diabetes, it could prevent complications such as kidney or heart disease. He concluded that they are hoping to delay or prevent those complications which would basically keep those patients off dialysis which though not enough would be beneficial indeed.
