A series of simultaneous bomb explosions rocked the 12-storied Hotel Orchard Plaza of Dhaka in the wee hours of Monday, June 2, injuring at least 50 people in the process. Those injured in the blast were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Islami Bank Central Hospital. The number of causalities from this bomb blast to expected to go up further.

The bomb blast in Dhaka’s Hotel Orchard Plaza caused five of its floors to catch fire, due to which a number of people comprising hotel customers and employees got trapped inside the blazing building. The fire even spread up to the floors above gradually. It is still not apparent as to what caused the bomb blast, the experts investigating the scene hint at the possibility of explosives being the reason.

At the same time, however, it is also being suspected that the cause for the explosion may be a cross connection between the gas line and the sewerage line of the hotel building. As per sources, the bomb explosion in the Dhaka hotel happened at around 9.15 p.m. in room no. 602 on the sixth floor in which two Sri Lankan nationals were residing. It is still being investigated what caused the subsequent bomb blasts in the hotel.
