A new study has proved that black tea can help in controlling diabetes, along with strengthening the immune system of human body.
The study conducted by Tianjin Key Laboratory researchers examined the levels of polysaccharide in black, green as well as oolong teas for their usefulness in the treatment of diabetes.
Polysaccharides, which contain cellulose and starch, help diabetics to delay glucose absorption. The study identified that the polysaccharides present in black tea were richer in glucose-inhibiting properties. They helped a great deal in scavenging the effect of on free radicals, which trigger diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.
“Many efforts have been made to search for effective glucose inhibitors from natural materials,” says lead researcher Haixia Chen.
“There is a potential for exploitation of black tea polysaccharide in managing diabetes,” the expert added.
