The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has emerged the single largest party in the state of Karnataka after winning 110 seats in the 224 seat Karnataka Assembly. The Congress has won 80 seats, the JD (S) 28 seats and others have won 6 seats. Venkaiah Naidu, senior BJP leader has said that the victory in Karnataka would have national implications. He further remarked that it is not a local victory for them as this is something which will help keep the party flock together and improve their performance in the upcoming state and general elections.

Former chief minister of the state SM Krishna, who resigned as the governor of Maharashtra to lead the congress campaign took the moral responsibility for the defeat. The former chief minister remarked that the Congress will now act as a responsible opposition. BJP chief Rajnath Singh said that the party’s victory in Karnataka was a milestone in its social and geographical expansion and made it a front-runner in the next Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Singh significantly remarked that the BJP had been seen as a north Indian party but now he can say that the BJP is an all-India party.
