The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is fast moving towards becoming the single largest party in the state of Karnataka. As the elections results started pouring in, the BJP started maintaining the lead and has so far won one seat and is leading in 89 constituencies. The Congress is a close second by leading in 71 seats, while the Janta Dal-Secular is trailing behind both the parties by leading in merely 32 constituencies.

The counting of votes for the 224 constituencies in Karnataka is currently underway amidst tight security. The BJP has struck an optimistic note and has remarked that it is expecting to win anywhere between 117-125 seats. The early trends have revealed that the BJP is clearly maintaining the lead in Bangalore, central Karnataka and coastal Karnataka.

The result for the 224 Karnataka Assembly constituencies is expected to finally known by 3 pm on Sunday. Political experts feel that the Karnataka results will have a major impact on national politics as well, and will influence the outcome of the timing of Parliamentary polls. Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and former minister HD Revanna are the prominent leaders who are leading by huge margins in their respective constituencies. Former chief minister N Dharam Singh is also hoping for a record ninth win from Jewargi.
