The state of Karnataka will have the first ever BJP government, which will be sworn in on May 28. The party has almost got a clear majority after winning 110 seats in the 224 seat Karnataka Assembly. According to sources, BS Yedyurappa will take the oath as the chief minister. The Bhartiya Janta Party is just three seats short of the magical 113 seat. None the less the party has emerged as the single largest party in the Karnataka Assembly 2008 elections.

The 2008 Karnataka Assembly elections results are marked different from the 2004 election results in the state. The BJP in 2004 had won 79 seats and it was the JD (S) which had emerged as the king maker in the hung assembly by winning 58 seats. The election process will end by May 28 on the day the Election Commission is expected to notify the constitution of the 13th Legislative Assembly in Karnataka. The BJP which has won 110 seats, according to some sources enjoys the support of four independent candidates amongst the seven who have won in the Karnataka Assembly elections.
