Former champion, Bjorn Borg has backed Roger Federer to win this year’s Wimbledon title. The great Swede had written off Federer before the start of Wimbledon championship last year. His prediction had come true and Rafael Nadal had upset Federer to win the title.
But, after the Swiss ace completed collection of all grand slams by winning the French Open few days ago, Borg has switched his faith in favour of Federer. Borg said that coming into Wimbledon, Federer is looking more relaxed because of the win at Roland Garros. Borg and Federer have won five consecutive Wimbledon titles.
Roger is on the brink of surpassing Pete Sampras’s record of grand slam wins. He is currently tied with Sampras with 14 grand slam titles. Roger is only the sixth man to win all four grand slams. He would be a very confident player now. He can expect great challenge from Andy Murray, now that Nadal is struggling to make it to the tournament due to injury.
Borg is confident of seeing more of Federer in future and more grand slam wins from him.
Martina Navratilova, former Wimbledon champion, showed her concern for Nadal. According to her, Nadal has been burned out mentally and physically because of playing too many tournaments in succession.
