Bong beauty Bipasha Basu will be seen essaying the character of Mandodari, the wife of Ravana, which is being played by Abhishek Bachchan in Mani Ratnam’s much-expected ‘Raavan’.
When the shooting for the movie had commenced, people were under the speculation that Aishwarya will be essaying the character of wife of Abhishek in the movie. But surprisingly, she is donning the role of Devi Sita, whose husband Rama is being essayed by ace Tamil actor, Vikram. Mani Ratnam had been searching for an actress who would perfectly fit into the role of Mandodari. His search ended with Bipasha signing the movie for the role of Ravana’s wife.
A source from the industry says, “Bipasha immediately said yes to the role. She had agreed to do it a month ago but Mani Ratnam had given her strict instructions to not talk about it.”
“Bipasha’s costumes are ready. She is very happy with her look in the film. She is looking forward to joining the unit of Raavan,” adds our source.
According to sources, Bipasha will commence shooting for her role from mid of September. A friend close to her has confirmed the news and said, “Bipasha not only has an item number in the film but also a full-fledged role, which can be termed as a special appearance. Right now, she is shooting for Priyadarashan’s film with Akshaye Khanna and Ajay Devgan. She will be shooting for 20 days for Raavan in which she has a 40-minute role.”
Even though Sushmita Sen had been offered the role of Mandodari, she declined the offer as she did not want to work with Aishwarya Rai.
