The ongoing flood in Bihar spells more disaster as Rs.150 crore of crops has been reported to be affected and the figure is supposed to increase further. The disastrous deluge took place in Bihar when Kosi River that flows in from Nepal burst its banks and submerged the major areas almost 14 days ago.

Although the officials said that they could not access the marooned areas entirely but on the basis of area under crop and yields levels an estimated 1.25 lakh hectares of area under different crops got washed away. The officials said that once the evacuation task was over they would be able to assess the damaged farmlands of state.

Besides paddy, maize, pulses and Rabi crops, innumerable banana trees also got affect by the flood. Although the devastating flood swirled through every nook and corner of the state of Bihar but the places like Supual, Araria, Madhepura and Purnea got heavily affected.

The rescue operation in the flood affected areas is on but the greatest havoc which both the Centre and the state government fear is the aftermath of the deluge. The officials of State Agricultural Department agreed that the estimated damage of crops may rise to an unexpected height after actual field assessment.
