To pay a great tribute to legendary batsman Don Bradman, Australia will celebrate its hero's centenary birth anniversary with all grandeur and glitz. The celebration due on August 27 will comprise of numerous functions across major cities in the country. Bradman born on August 27, 1908, played cricket till August 1948, and took his last breath in the year 2001.
On the occasion there would be a special lunch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Also, at his birthplace Cootamundra, New South Wales, Bradman's grandson Tom will open the Captains Walk, which is a collection of sculptures of Australian captains till today. The cricket family, friends and fans of Bradman will celebrate his life and career at functions across major cities in the country.
Another mega event of the occasion would be a Bradman Centenary Dinner to be hosted at Sydney. At the event, Australian Test Captain Ricky Ponting will address 400 guests at the Westin hotel. The whole event is organized by Australian Cricket Board to acknowledge Bradman's contribution to Australian society & his role in shaping an emerging nation's credentials.
