Even though the Davis Cup tie is over, discord among the Indian tennis team members still looms large. Now it remains to be seen how this discord between ace Indian tennis players Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes will impact their performance at the approaching Beijing Olympics. Mahesh Bhupathi recently admitted that both he and estranged former partner Leander Paes need to mend fences to perform well at the Olympics.
Leas pointed out that he is quite happy with his new partner Paul Hanley but also admitted that it made perfect sense for him and Bhupathi to play together some tournaments before entering Beijing for Olympic Games. Mahesh Bhupathi too backed Paes’s decision saying that he (Leander Paes) needs to be comfortable with the person he spends 30 weeks on tour with during tournaments. Further on, Bhupathi casually agreed that he and Leander Paes need to pair up for more outing prior the Olympics.
Mahesh Bhupathi said that the Olympics have been at the back of both of them’s mind for the past three years and they look forward to winning in the Games. Bhupathi said that though he and Paes were good enough to keep winning at the Asian level like this, but Beijing would definitely be a tough nut to crack. Paes however feels that as long as both of them keep doing well on the circuit, their chemistry will never go away.
