The Vijay Mallya-owned United Breweries Group together with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have declared a joint plan to honor the winners of the 1983 cricket World Cup in order to mark the 25th anniversary of this cricketing milestone. For this, a special programme will be convened in Delhi by the BCCI on 22 June to felicitate the Indian cricketers. After this, the cricketers’ team will be taken on a tour of the Lords on 25 June to commemorate this special day. Finally a lavish dinner will be hosted by the United Breweries Group for the cricketers in London to provide the event a perfect ending.
Members of the 1983 cricket World Cup winning team, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar have presented a bat signed by all his teammates. This bat will be encrusted with diamonds and auctioned by the United Breweries Group through collaboration with an auction house. ‘This is our way of ensuring that the silver jubilee celebrations are memorable for millions of those who were a either a part of it or yearned to be one,’ read a statement jointly issued by the UB Group and BCCI recently.
