Harbhajan Singh has been given a five match ban by the BCCI for slapping his India teammate S Sreesanth in an IPL match. In fact, BCCI President Sharad Pawar has given the spinner a warning of life ban if any more indiscipline is encountered from his side. The BCCI’s disciplinary committee had met Harbhajan Singh last week and the committee commissioner Sudhir Nanavati had heard Harbhajan’s side before submitting the final report to BCCI. Harbhajan Singh, as a result of this ban, will not be able to be a part of Bangladesh tour and even miss two matched of Asia Cup in Pakistan.
The verdict has added more agony to the plight of the IPL team, Mumbai Indians member as he is already barred to play in eleven matches of the Indian Premier League. The off-spinner is facing all the troubles owing to his slapping Kings XI Punjab player Sreesanth after an Indian Premier League match at Mohali on April 25. On being barred from playing in the IPL matches has resulted in Harbhajan losing nearly Rs 3 crore of his match fees.
The three member BCCI panel, which included BCCI President Sharad Pawar, BCCI president-elect Shashank Manohar and BCCI vice-president Chirayu Amin gave the ill-fated ruling for Harbhajan after going through the report submitted by Sudhir Nanavati. The verdict was pronounced by Sharad Pawar today, late in the afternoon after which he further declared that this is the last chance for Harbhajan and any more acts of indiscipline will result in a life ban for the off-spinner.
