Bayern Munich clinched the Bundesliga Championship title on Sunday, May 4, 2008 despite a barren draw at VfL Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga website reported that this was Bayern Munich’s 21st German league Bundesliga title. The Sunday night result gave Bayern an unassailable 10 point lead over Werder Bremen. Bayern Munich has already been riding high on victory after clinching the German World Cup last month.
Ottmar Hitzfield, Bayern Munich coach remarked that the team wasn’t good and they played a flat match, but despite that their winning the title makes it much better. Bayern were already annihilated by injuries with their captain Oliver Kahn, defenders Philipp Lahm and Lucio, midfielders Ze Roberto and Franck Ribery and striker Miroslav Klose all missing from the Sunday match. After their stupendous and fortunate win, Ottmar Hitzfield will depart at the end of the season and Juergen Klinsmann will take over coaching the team to renew their challenge in the Champions League.
