Bahrain’s Batelco has announced the closure of its dial up internet service from January 24 next year.
Recently, the company had formed a Next Generation Network by combining both data and voice services in one platform. The tentative date for the closure of this network service is fixed as January 24, 2010.
According to Batelco Group general manager Ahmed Al Janahi, there are very few people use dial-up services now. And the percentage of users in that category is also dipping each month. The statistics shows that only 5% of customers are in dial-up services as compared to 95% in the broadband network. So it’s better to adopt the technology which has more prospects in future.
As per Business Monitor International report, Gulf state's fixed broadband sector had seen a growth of 37% last year and is growing at a rate of 8.8%.
Bahrain has seen a sound economic growth of 7% this year.
