Veteran diplomat Christopher Hill was appointed as the new US ambassador to Iraq by President Barack Obama on Friday (February 27). Commenting on the appointment of Hill as new envoy to Iraq, Obama said that the diplomat possesses all the skill and shrewdness to represent US in Iraq at this crucial phase.
Christopher Hill has been an American envoy to the North Korean nuclear talks for almost four years. He was the lead US negotiator in six-party talks over North Korea's nuclear programme during George Bush's regime. Last December, the six parties comprising of the US, Russia, China, Japan and the two Koreas concluded their third meeting, failing to find any substantial solution on North Korea's nuclear verification initiative.
Apart from being a US representative in North Korea nuclear talks, Christopher Hill also served as a negotiator in the crises in Bosnia and Kosovo. US President expressed his satisfaction over Hill's earlier works and said that he had shown great pragmatism and skill. According spokesman for the White House Robert Gibbs, US President has also informed the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki about the new appointment. Obama urged Iraq to accept Christopher Hill as the new ambassador to the country.
