Bangalore Royal Challengers registered their third consecutive victory in IPL defeating Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets at New Wanderers Stadium on Sunday (May 3). Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians started their innings on a disastrous note by losing Sachin Tendulkar (11) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in successive balls. Dillon du Preez of Royal Challengers bowled an excellent spell to get rid of Tendulkar and Rahane in back-to-back deliveries. He also dismissed JP Duminy and finished up with a figure of 3-32 in four overs. Mumbai Indians managed a score of 149 runs in their 20 overs.

In reply, Bangalore Royal Challengers won the match by nine wickets with 11 balls to spare. South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis and young Robin Uthappa scored brilliant half centuries to guide the team to third consecutive victory in the league. Kallis amassed 69 runs from 59 balls with two sixes and five fours while Uthappa blasted 66 off 42, hitting eight boundaries and two sixes. Royal Challengers lost the only wicket of Wasim Jaffer at the hands of Zaheer Khan.

Earlier Mumbai Indians could reach the score of 149 simply because of some solid batting from Sanath Jayasuriya (52) and Dwayne Bravo (50). Apart from them, Abhishek Nayar (29) also contributed down the order. Kallis was awarded the man-of-the-match trophy. After losing the match, Mumbai skipper Tendulkar said that the target of 150 was not enough; they would have scored some more runs to beat Royal Challengers.
