The south Indian city of Bangalore in Karnataka was rocked by seven bomb blasts on Friday, July 25 within a time span of just 15 minutes, the police officials informed. One woman was killed, while scores others have been injured. The police state that these seven bombs were detonated using timing devices.
As per the initial reports flowing in, these blasts are being described as being low in intensity, but all of them occurred in congested areas. Bangalore happens to be a top information technology center of the country as it is home to over 40 per cent of India’s IT and software industry.
Following the multiple blasts, all cinema halls, restaurants and schools in Bangalore have been shut down. Bangalore city police commissioner Shankar Bidri said that the bomb squads have reached the scene and that investigation behind the serial blasts is on. He even appealed to the people to continue their normal activities without any apprehension.
The Bangalore city police commissioner informed that each of the explosions were equivalent in magnitude to that of one or two grenades. It was the explosion in the Madiwala area where, the police say, the woman died. Other blasts took place in Nayanadhalli, Adugudi, Rajaram Circle, Anepallya and Ashok Nagar. Those injured have been rushed to Bangalore's St John's hospital.
