UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon has called for the implantation of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at the earliest.
Moon, at the inauguration of the two-day conference, that has about 100 foreign ministers, has asked the nine states, who have not to endorsed CTBT, to take a faster look into the same and kick off the negotiations soon.
Ban said the time had come for countries to show their own leadership, rather than waiting for the leadership of others.
US, Iran, Israel, Israel, China and Egypt have signed the treaty, but they have not implemented the same till now. India, Pakistan and North Korea are yet to sign CTBT. Moon mentioned that the nuclear test conducted by North Korea was an incident which stresses the importance of endorsing the treaty.
The foreign ministers then passed a resolution calling for an immediate stop to all nuclear testing pending adoption of the treaty by all countries.
The UN Security Council also intends to meet late Thursday morning to discuss steps towards nuclear disarmament.
