The first death due to swine flu was reported from Bahrain after a South-East Asian woman succumbed to the deadly virus. This has been confirmed by the health officials in Manama on Sunday.
The woman who passed away was in her thirties and came from South-East Asia. She had been admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex in critical condition. This information about the deceased was given by Mohammed Amin al-Awadhi, who is the chief of medical staff at the Bahrain’s main hospital.
Sources told the German Press Agency that the deceased was a 30-year-old Filipino woman who had been brought to the hospital on Wednesday.
The health officials of Bahrain are in constant touch with the Philippine embassy in Manama so that the identity of the woman is revealed. This is also essential to know how she entered the country.
"The medical staff could not determine the source of her infection, whether it originated inside or outside Bahrain, as she arrived to the hospital in a critical condition and it was not possible to ask her about the source of her infection," al-Awadhi said.
He also disclosed that she had been suffering from other medical conditions that had obstacle her response to the treatment provided for the swine flu infection. This eventually led to her death.
