Cricket Australia (CA) announced a 15-man Australian squad for 2009 Twenty20 World Cup, slated to be held in England on June 5. The Aussie selectors have inducted fast bowler Brett Lee, all-rounders Shane Watson and Andrew Symonds in the squad. Apart from them, Dirk Nannes of Victoria and David Warner of New South Wales have also made into the final list. Both Nannes and Warner are representing Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Australian side will have Ricky Ponting as captain while Michael Clarke will be his deputy. Pacer Brett Lee has just recovered from an ankle surgery and is expected to play his comeback match against Pakistan in Dubai. Australia will play the T20 international match against Pakistan on Thursday (May 7). Lee is also likely to join his IPL team Kings XI Punjab.
According to Australian selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch, the newly selected squad has enough potential to lift this year's title. Commenting on the selection of Shane Watson, Hilditch said that the all-rounder has performed well in the ODI series against Pakistan and hence garbed the attention. The selectors have also picked up the Hussey brothers for the T20 world cup.
