Australia adamant to its policy of selling uranium to NPT members only has said that it will not sell the same to India till it signs NPT. The Trade Minister of Australia Simon Crean said that Australia is committed to supplying uranium to only those countries which are party to the NPT, and it therefore will not be supplying uranium to India while it is not a member of the NPT.

On the other hand, India is looking forward for any solution for the current situation when Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith arrives in India on Tuesday. Also, India is expected to argue that the waiver should address Australian concerns over dealing with a state which has not signed NPT. Factually, Australia is the largest producer (40%) of uranium in the world.

Puritan approach from the Rudd-led Labor government to summarily reject supply of uranium to India according to the Federal Party of Australia is Labor Party's policy of hypocrisy. Federal Party says that Foreign Minister should use his next visit to India to announce a new uranium policy to India to start a new business transaction in new pattern.
