International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test Championship mace has been awarded to Ricky Ponting, the Australian captain. He has received the mace as Australia finished at the top in the table, for the 2008-09 calendar year. Along with the mace, Australia was awarded $175,000. On the same date, when he received the mace, Ponting also picked up a cheque for $75,000, for coming second in the ODI Championship.

Ponting dedicated the mace to the hard work of his team's players and the back-room staff. The only team that managed to disturb the dominance of Australia, in the 2008-09 calendar year, was South Africa (which beat Australia at their home base). However, Ponting’s men ultimately won the series, retaining their numero-uno position of the Test Championship table.

The ICC ODI Championship shield was awarded to Graeme Smith, the South African captain, for topping the table in the shorter version. Along with the shield for the ODI Champions, Smith also received a cheque for $75,000. At the same time, he received a cheque of $75,000, for coming second in the Test Championship, on the basis of April 1 cut-off.
