The substandard performance being put up by Australians at the National Aquatics Center got compensated on Sunday, August 17 during the Beijing Olympics’ Women's 4 x 100m Medley Relay event. The Australian team not only took Gold, but also broke the world record on the final day of the swimming competition.
During the Women's 4 x 100m Medley Relay event, the Australian team was defending Olympic champions, world champions, world record holders as well as fastest qualifiers for the final. They proved their mettle by securing Gold in a world record time of 3: 52.69, which was a neat 3.05 seconds less than the old world record.
The team from United States consisting of Coughlin, Soni, Christine Magnuson and Torres won the Silver medal in 3:53.30. The bronze went to the Chinese team of Zhao Jing, Sun Ye, Zhou Yafei and Pang Jiaying. Time taken by them during the event was 3:56.11.
