Something that can cause much embarrassment to the organizers of the cash-rich Indian Premier League, a few Australian cricketers have complained about non-payment of their match fee. Some Australian players who participated in the immensely popular Indian Premier League have claimed that they have not received the wages despite repeated reminders to their respective franchise owners.
Paul Marsh, chief of the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) has claimed that the players, who have returned after playing for the IPL in the first two weeks owing to national commitments in the West Indies, are frustrated with the impasse. An Australian players was quoted by a leading international newspaper that his franchise did not clear his money despite claiming on three occasions that his wage was on its way.
The leading Australian players who returned after the first couple of weeks in IPL included skipper Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Bret Lee, Andrew Symonds and Simon Katich among others. Paul Marsh remarked that the ACA is following the developments closely but it is not something that they are panicking about. He further added that the bad PR that would eventuate if the players weren’t paid would be so bad that none of the players would go back and the whole thing would just fall over.
