Hyderabad-based Aurobindo Pharma announced that its US-based joint venture firm has got USFDA's approval for anti-bacterial veterinary drug. Cephazone Pharma, which is a joint venture entity of Aurobindo Pharma and US-based Medpharmex, has received the approval of USFDA for Ceftiofur Sodium Sterile powder. This anti-bacterial drug is used in the treatment of various bacterial infections in animals including dogs, swine, horses and cattle.
The drug is a generic version of Pfizer's Naxcel. A few days back, Aurobindo has expanded its partnership with global pharma major Pfizer Inc. The joint venture firm, Cephazone Pharma was set up in 2001 on a 50:50 partnership basis between Hyderabad-based Aurobindo Pharma and Geravi Inc, a subsidiary of Medpharmex in USA. Aurobindo Pharma is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in India. The company has a wide range of medicinal products pertaining to the areas of CVS, CNS, anti-retroviral, antibiotics, gastroenterologicals, anti-diabetics and anti-allergic.
The recent USFDA's nod for anti-bacterial veterinary drug has triggered the shares of Aurobindo Pharma to over 4 percent on the BSE on Friday. The pharmaceutical company was founded in 1986 and after couple of years Aurobindo Pharma became a public venture in 1992. Aurobindo's US firm is engaged in manufacturing sterile and non-sterile cephalosporin products.
