AT &T has made necessary modifications to run VoIP and iPhone services on its 3G network.
Until now, the users had to connect a regular wireless network like Skype to call a friend. But now, the applications are available in AT&T sets. Apart from Skype, Vonage and Truphone are the other frontrunners in providing Wi-Fi network.
AT&T has communicated this to the Federal Communications Commission and Apple has also made necessary changes in its Apple iPhones to enable the wireless network.
"We are very happy that AT&T is now supporting VoIP applications," Apple spokesperson Natalie Kerris said in an interview.
Kerris also said, "We will be amending our developer agreements to get VoIP apps on the App Store and in customers' hands as soon as possible."
Google Voice is also another service similar to AT&T VoIP, but it offers other benefits like receiving calls to a single number in multiple places.
