The well-known search website Ask.com on Thursday 15 May will pronounce a deal to acquire Lexico, which owns the very popular reference websites Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com. Experts state that such a concord will result in increasing its users by 11 per cent. It is an indication that the dominance of Ask in the InterActiveCorp (IAC) is increasing.
This is because this prominent American Internet conglomerate is thinking about spinning off four of its significant businesses and concentrate on web media and advertising in the coming months. Once Ask acquires Lexico, experts say that this move will up the number of its visitors to over 145 million on a monthly basis.
If one were to go by the monthly traffic data retrieved from comScore, the combined entity would make Ask the ninth largest web property internationally. The financial terms of the deal has not been divulged.
