Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has become president of Pakistan. Zardari who is holding co-chairman post of ruling party PPP received a tremendous mandate from electorates. The National Assembly voted in favor of Zardari where Zardari received 281 votes out of 426 votes. There are a total of 436 members in the National Assembly. All the members voted in the election, however, ten votes were considered invalid.
According to reports, Zardari got huge number of votes from Balochistan and Sindh Assemblies. He received 59 votes in the 65-member in the Balochistan Assembly. Similarly, he received 162 votes out of 163 in the Sindh Assembly. Unlike Indian President, Pakistan President holds a real power. He is vested with right to dissolve Parliament, to sack the Prime Minister and to appoint the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Asif Ali Zardari known as 'Mr 10%' in midst of his critics for alleged involvement in a bribe cases, is known for his breach of promises too. Now, holding the post of dignity and power will be a real test of the person. Also, this 53-year-old has spent 11 years in jail on corruption and other charges. Zardari will have a tough task ahead for sure in domestic politics.
