The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to build Mughal Museum in Zafar Mahal at Meharauli in New Delhi. The Mahal was a favorite place for last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, a poet king. He along with his favorite queen Zeenat Mahal used to stay at the Mahal during summer season. The place is now under encroachment, and ASI will have to undergo a heavy struggle to get it freed.
According to ASI officials, the conversion of Zafar Mahal into Museum would serve two purposes. One, more visitors would come to Zafar Mahal, and second, the monument would be protected against anti-social elements and encroachments. ASI will take out collection from Swatantrata Sanghralya museum at the Red Fort and put the same in Mughal Museum.
The museum would be a great tribute to legendry Mughal emperor who was known for his poetry than for administration. He wrote:
"Zafar, no matter how smart and witty one may be, he is not a man
Who in good times forgot God, and who in anger did not fear Him."
Now, with the decision from ASI, chances are people would know about the last emperor of Hindustan and his life.
