Arshad Warsi says that it is hard to break out of the mould of ‘Circuit’, the funny, affable goon in ‘Munnabhai’ movies who won hearts of many.
“Once a particular character becomes a hit, a slew of similar ones are offered to the actor. I do not have a choice. At times, actors do not really get what they want to do. Most of them are not in a position to pick and choose,” Warsi said.
“They have to choose from what is being offered to them and generally it is akin to their image in audience’s minds. It is not only me, but many other actors too who face this problem. Hence, I accord more importance to the script and not the genre of the movie,” he said.
“Script is the clincher for me while deciding for a project. Script is the real hero of the movie,” he said.
In his next movie, ‘Ishqiyan’, Warsi would be sharing screen space with the veteran Naseeruddin Shah. Warsi said that he has always held great admiration for the veteran. “We share a great chemistry in the movie. Naseeruddin is not one of those actors who makes you feel intimidated because of their seniority. Working with him was a dream come true,” he said. Warsi said his character in the film is weird but well-written.
Arshad has turned producer with ‘Bola Kaun’. He said soon we would start his hands at direction too. “I really liked the script of ‘Bola Kaun’. However, it may be finally released with some other name. Later, if any script appeals me, I would like to direct it,” he said. “Film making as such excites me. I would like to be associated with all the aspects related to it.”
Arshad had also hosted the first season of the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’. He said he doesn’t mind doing TV again. “If I do get something exciting, worth doing, I would definitely do it. But I cannot jeopardize my reputation just for money”, he said.
