According to defence sources the special forces of army will be provided wrist watches which have Global Positioning System. This will help them during their operations against militants in Jammu and Kashmir.

This will enable the Special Forces to obtain a technological edge over militants and the tenders have been floated by Northern command headquarters for procuring the same. About 120 multi-utility GPS watches will be purchased for Special Forces. The bids are being floated for these.

Dozens of GPS devices have been recovered from infiltrating militants during encounters along the Line of Control (LoC) during the past year, they said.

"Militants are frequently using GPS devices for infiltration and reaching their guides along LoC. The watches are used by militants for navigation", the sources said.

These proposed GPS watches will come with 20 channels all-in-view tracking with a large LCD and 80000 tracking points.

"The watches will gives forces an edge to identify terrain and plan their strategy for operations", the defence sources said.
