India suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat to Argentina in the final of Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey final on Sunday, May 18, 2008. The victory on Sunday has given the Argentineans their first Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey title. Argentina’s veteran Mario Almada struck a remarkable goal to clinch the championship. Earlier Sandeep Singh’s 10th minute penalty corner conversion gave India the lead in the match. The Indians nonetheless in the final match gave tough competition to the title winners.
 
The Indian side despite a goal in the 10th minute could not maintain thr lead for long. Four minutes later veteran Mario Almada scored the equalizer for Argentina. The scores remained 1-1 after the regulation time and as it is the rule, the match went in to extra time. It was Almada once again who shot the golden goal to seal the victory in Argentina’s favor. 

The title clash was nonetheless an interesting match to watch, which was keenly contested by the two sides. India had made it top the Azlan Shah final after a gap of 12 years. India will take the silver medal back home with pride as they displayed a brilliant turnaround in the tournament after losing their first two tournament matches.
