AQ Khan, the dishonored nuclear scientist of Pakistan, has turned against the beleaguered President Pervez Musharraf, who had pardoned him for embroilment in proliferation activities four years ago. Khan, who is presently under detention in his home, in a recent statement has blamed Pervez Musharraf for the problems plaguing Pakistan

Since the past four years Abdul Qadir Khan has been kept under detention by the Pakistani President after he accepted proliferating nuclear secrets. Khan, however, has now stated that he never did anything illegal.
AQ Khan added that further details about the nuclear proliferation will be divulged by him at a more ‘appropriate time’.

AQ Khan underscored that
Pakistan has been unable to make much progress in economic development even though it became ‘self-sufficient’ in defence matters by testing nuclear devices in May 1998. ‘(In) the last 10 years, the country has gone to the dogs,’ he commented recently while speaking to a prominent news channel over the telephone.

When queried if he held the Pakistani President responsible for the problems ailing the country, Khan replied ‘The team leader is responsible for the failure of the team. But all those who were with him did not assert themselves and they did not do a proper job.’ Nevertheless, scientist AQ Khan also stated that the new civilian government of Pakistan should be provided some time to settle the problems. Khan said that he felt betrayed by those who had goaded him to accept the charges of nuclear proliferation. He underscored that he was not a part of anything illegal or unauthorized.
