The eagerly awaited launch of the Apple iPhone is expected to be in the first week of September with telecom operators Vodafone. The Indians will no longer have to travel overseas or resort to illegal measures to get the best in cell phone technology in India from September onwards. Apple sources in Singapore till last month were tight lipped about the date of launch of the iPhone but had always maintained that the launch would happen in 2008 itself.
 
The carrier deal for India is currently being worked out with Vodafone according to an inside source. Mobile carriers which offer the iPhone share a small percentage of their sales with Apple. After the launch of the iPhone in India, it can be ‘unlocked’ or configured to use SIM cards from telecom carriers. Few iPhone users in the country had resorted to illegal measures to own the gadget and unlock it.
 
Apple retail sources have revealed that initially the 8 GB version of the touch screen gadget will be launched. The features of the sought after iPhone include TV feeds, map based location guides, Wi-Fi enabled service with a powerful email client. The 8 GB iPhone will be launched at a price ranging from Rs 27,200 to 28,000. The launch of the 16 GB iPhone will be lurched, depending upon the response of buyers for the 8 GB iPhone.
