Barring few exceptions, the Indian athletes in general continue to perform disappointingly at this year’s Olympic Games in Beijing. The news is that even Anju Bobby George has failed to qualify for the women's long jump event on Tuesday, August 19.

All three attempts that she made turned out to be fouls. Anju Bobby George made her presence felt in the international forum for the very first time in 2003 after winning the World Athletics Championships in Paris. At Athens, she jumped 6.83m and then 6.75m in Monaco.

Thereafter, her performance dipped and she is presently ranked 16th in the world. This season, her best has been 6.55 m during three separate meets. It was three years back that she clinched major success after winning silver in the World athletics final with a jump of 6.75.
