Anil Shrikhande has been appointed as the first president of Rolls-Royce's India operations. Commenting on the appointment of Anil Shrikhande, Rolls-Royce chief executive John Rose said that by appointing him the company aims to consolidate its hold in Indian market which is an important centre for sourcing, technology services and product development for Rolls-Royce. The new president will tackle all of Rolls-Royce's operations and activities in India and South Asia.
Talking to media, the newly appointed president of Rolls-Royce India said that he will offer his full commitment to the company and strengthen the existing business in India. Before joining Rolls-Royce, Shrikhande held a number of executive positions at Boeing, including the vice-president of Boeing Integrated Defence Systems, and president of Boeing India. Apart from these, he was also associated with Unisys India and board membership of Tata Uniysys. John Rose of Rolls-Royce also stated that the appointment of Anil Shrikhande will enable the company to operate and develop the India and South Asia business rapidly.
The association of Rolls-Royce with Indian aviation dates back to 1932. The company has more than 1,300 engines in service in India. Besides its business activities, the company has been engaged in co sponsoring the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarship programme. After the tsunami in 2004, Rolls-Royce was instrumental in rebuilding a high school in Tamil Nadu that currently provides education to 300 students.
